| | Authentic Models Coffee Tables, Of typical form and shape, our Skylight Saloon Table was originally intended to pass light through to the below-decks saloon of the royal yacht Standart. This 420 foot long luxury vessel belonged to Russia's Czar Nicholas II and his family. Every June the Romanovs cruised the Baltic, taking tea in wicker chairs (much like our Fireside chair) and reading in mahogany paneled drawing rooms. With the angled windows lifted horizontally (the position which allowed fresh air into the below-decks) a wonderful, unusual and oversized coffee table takes shape. Space for books, papers and various paraphernalia is sumptuous and plentiful. Drawers complement the nautical themed functionality with proven imperial heritage. | | Authentic Models Occasional Chairs, My Great Aunt Betty used to live in a house we called The Mansions, because of its large size and posh decor. Uncle Ludo was Italian, very clever and a banker. He dealt with Indian princes, and always went to work in a taxi. Aunt Betty was presented on a special occasion with two used rattan chairs from a visiting Nabob, which took her by surprise, since I guess she'd rather have the Koh-I-Noor. Anyway, the chairs also surprised with their comfort and looks, and Aunt Betty became quite attached to them. Located on each side of the library hearth, my uncle and aunt used to receive friends well into their nineties, and the chairs became legendary in the family. Dimensions: Width: 22.83" - Height: 45.67" - Length: 24.61" - - Materials: - | | | | |
| | Authentic Models Console & Sofa Tables, Chinese furniture is usually somewhat over-decorated for western tastes. But simple lines and clever construction were used throughout Chinese history for travel furniture. Found in one of the 800 pavilions and palaces of the Forbidden City, the original of this altar/traveling table of unusual design was reputedly used by the Dowager Empress Tzu His when traveling incognito. The empress alternated piety with illicit affairs during her voyages. Tzu His may have used the side table as an alternative setting for excess dishes during her elaborate dinners, some of which ran to 100 courses or more. A beautifully finished cherry veneer top resting on distressed pine folding legs is easily set up, an elegant addition to any classic or modern interior, and a timeless treasure.
